and Related Health & Nutrition Programs in Marin City
The importance of food justice cannot be underestimated as issues of food invariably overlap with community health, economic integrity, and environmental education and stewardship.
Through the Farm Stand EECOM provides community access to reasonably priced, wholesome food in the form that will eventually be a self-sustained community enterprise. Likewise, our after school program provides food security and education as well as an opportunity for community service and enterprise.
EECOM conducted a community-based survey where more than 200 residents said that they would strongly support a farm stand and receiving health and nutrition information in their community. This survey identified that there is a firm "market" although there was no place to buy wholesome food.
Today, EECOM is seeking funding to continue the farm stand and related projects for the year 2008. We intend to run the stand from April or May until September,
In the future, one of the basic aspects of a viable business model will include at least 25% donated produce and/or produce grown from a community garden in Marin City.
